Kitchen Design

Here is my first attempt at a kitchen design now I know how big the kitchen will be. The cupboards on the right hand wall are wall cupboards placed on the floor but I couldn't persuade the design software that I didn't want them on the wall. The 3D picture looks a bit strange as a result but I am sure you get the idea

The final choice of finish and flooring will not be as shown but it looks nicer if your pick something.

I think the cost of this will be something like £600 plus the appliances which means we are just about in budget. I hope to place the order for this lot next week when I have finalised everything.

The corner unit has such a small door that I think a flush unit in line with the cooker, although smaller, would be more useful. I would then turn the wall unit to be above it.

I would put wall units or perhaps some stylish shelves above the half depth units.

More radically, and because we prefer eye level ovens, I would consider putting an eye level oven in the corner, to the left of the current cooker, with cupboard under and over, although that does reduce worksurface space.

possibly a stupid question but why are you putting wall units on the floor?

just answered my own question - because they are not so deep!!!

I have seen this technique used before. It is quite effective and gives you a usuable work top as well.

good idea - you can never have too much work surface

If you make the unit to the left of the cooker flush with the cooker (ie not going round the bend), you could then move the door "up" 300mm towards the cooker. This would be better in that it would not open quite as much onto the loo - odd if you are going to the washing machine. It would also allow you to extend the 300mm deep units all the way along that wall. This would give you more cupboard space (and it would be much more accessible), and more worksurface. I think it would also look better, more symetric, etc

I am not sure that moving the door along would work. I agree it would allow the 300mm units to go all the way down the room but the gap between the units is quite small and with the design as it is you can open the oven easily (the dishwasher will more cramped).

If there were units all the way down the room access would not be as easy. In addition the door to the toilet is opening outwards which works when it is opening out onto the radiator behind the door.

I think if the door was moved there would be a potentially dangerous situation involving oven doors and people opening the toilet door from the inside. With this design that cannot happen.

Whilst the corner unit looks cramped it really does work and the space for it is perfect. There is of course one major thing this design does not have – there are no drawer units. Oops.
