Carpets and Tiles

Mrs APD is venturing forth this morning to visit the house and then, after getting some inspiration, setting off to buy carpets and tiles.

I fear we will very shortly be going over budget. This is not because Mrs APD has a tendency to purchase Italian marble flooring (although she does) but because even the initial quote we have had from the carpet suppliers indicates that it will be £1500 to supply and fit the carpets and with the tiles probably being another £400.00 on top of that we will have spent too much.

There will (I think) be one or two savings to be made elsewhere so I don't think the damage will be too bad unless she comes back with one of these in which case we are in deep trouble!

My neighbour has just recarpeted his house (same size as mine, about 1600 sq ft of carpet) for £1600, fitted (Allied). There are good deals around if you look.

I saw the mortgage data yesterday. In Nov and Dec approx 40k people got a mortgage. That is about 1000 per working day. About 1 in 400 of UK live in Kingston Boro, so that is about 2.5 mortgages Boro' wide per day. Say 4 as it is an affluent area with high o/occupation rates (plus cash buyers, but I don't sense that you expect to sell to a cash buyer).

4 people a day able to buy a house - it really is not many.

Tiles have been purchased (£427.77 including the adhesive and grout) although Mrs APD is now having a change of heart and is thinking of swapping some for a different style. This shouldn't affect the price.

We have used a local carpet supplier for years and they have always been competitive but it does no harm to check out others and we may get a couple of other quotes before placing an order. There are some bargains to be had.

The carpets will be £1418.00 for woollen carpets and underlay throughout.

We could have spent less by using synthetic materials but woollen carpets are better quality and if we do decide to rent they are easier to clean.

Not a bad price and the national outlets couldn't beat the price.
